Application Information

Normally a student must rank in the top half of his or her class to gain full admission. Accepted students may begin study at the start of the fall, spring, or summer session.

Applications must be received by January 1 for admission the following fall semester and by September 1 for admission the following spring semester.

GRE scores are required for all applicants. International students must submit a TOEFL score of 550 or higher for paper exam or 80 or higher for online exam. 

It is not possible, for any reason, for the Admissions Office or the department to waive or defer the required application fee.

Three letters of recommendation and a personal statement of purpose are also required.  We strongly encourage the applicant to submit these documents online.

Statement of Purpose

We ask that you specifically address the following questions when writing your statement of purpose:

• What are your plans for the next three to five years?
• What is your long-term outlook beyond this three to five-year period?
• What are the possible areas of specialization during your graduate studies?
• How did your interest develop in these identified areas?
• How did you prepare yourself to do graduate work in these identified areas?
