On April 4-6, 2008 a team of Iowa State engineering students traveled to Fort Worth, Texas to compete in the SAE Aero Design West competition.  The purpose of this competition was to design, build, and fly a remote control aircraft capable of lifting the most payload.  This event hosted 54 teams from the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Poland, and Australia.  The competition hosted 3 classes: Regular, Open, and Micro.

Team Cyclone Air competed in the Open Class.  The major design constraints in this class were a 15 inch wheel base, 0.80 cubic ince engine displacement limit, and a takeoff and landing from an undeveloped grass field.  Cyclone Air finished 3rd overall in the Open Class and also received an award for the Best Design Report in the Open Class.  They placed 2nd in the Micro Class.

Cyclone Air Team Members:  Kyle Bowell (ME), Joseph Hodgin (AER E), Brett Jackson (AER E), Sean Smith (AER E), Steve Sulhoff (AER E), and David Wiedmeyer (AER E).
