Dale E. Chimenti, Professor in Aerospace Engineering, has been selected to receive the David R. Boylan Eminent Faculty Research Award.  This award recognizes Professor Chimenti’s pioneering contributions in the field of nondestructive evaluation (NDE).  Twenty odd years ago he initiated investigations on leaky guided waves in complex media that have launched an entire subfield within ultrasonic NDE and are now the basis of the emerging area of structural health monitoring.  He is responsible for numerous innovations in guided waves, and his research publications show he remains at the forefront of ultrasonic NDE.  An internationally recognized editor, Professor Chimenti edits both the most important research journal and the most widely circulated scientific proceedings in NDE, confirming Iowa State’s pre-eminent standing in nondestructive evaluation.
