Five seniors receive department accolades for fall 2021

Five graduating seniors have received Department of Aerospace Engineering honors with Academic Excellence and Overall Achievement Awards. They were recognized at the department’s Pre-Commencement Reception on graduation day, December 18.

Academic Excellence

Brandon Crow

Brandon is a member of the Sigma Gamma Tau fraternity. He has been involved in numerous organizations and activities during his time at Iowa State including being a coordinator of the volunteer student club Pay It Forward; being a Destination Iowa State team leader; involvement with an undergraduate research project through the Iowa Space Grant Consortium; and being a tutor in the ISU Office of Student Athlete Development. He worked as a summer intern with Northrop-Grumman for two years and has been hired into a full-time position with the company following graduation. Brandon was also chosen as the College of Engineering outstanding senior representing the Department of Aerospace Engineering for the fall 2021 commencement.

Alexander VandeLoo

Aleander is a member of the ISU Honors Program. He has been the electrical team lead and project lead with the OpenUAS Research Project through the lab of Black and Veatch Building a World of Difference in Engineering Faculty Fellow Kristin-Yvonne Rozier. He took part in a study abroad experience in Madrid, Spain in 2019 and has had summer internships with Collins Aerospace (systems engineer), the Sierra Nevada Corporation and Sierra Space (electrical engineer). He also served as secretary and social chair of the Cardinal Swing Society.

 

Overall Achievement

Adam Bodenham

Bodenham graduates with minors in physics and non-destructive evaluation and many hours of internship and leadership experiences both on- and off-campus. He interned at Boeing and Hearth and Home Technologies. He is a part of the ISU Honors Program and is a member of the Tau Beta Pi and Sigma Gamma Tau engineering honor societies. He has been the aerodynamics lead for Iowa State’s Formula SAE vehicle program, a platoon problem coordinator for the Civic Engineering 274 Statics course and an initiation small group leader with Tau Beta Pi. He was involved with undergraduate aerospace engineering research at Iowa State, and with First Lego League and the ISU Run Club.

Eli Gaeta

Eli has been involved with internships at Lockheed Martin and Collins Aerospace. He has been a first year ISU Honors Program mentor, an ISU Outdoor Recreation Climbing Wall manager, Table Tennis Club president and environmental chair of the Starbuck House residence hall. He has minored in Energy Systems.

Logan Swayne

Logan has interned with Cobham Mission Systems and Collins Aerospace and will be employed full-time as an integration and unmanned systems engineer at Collins after graduation. He has been president of Freshman Council and a co-sponsor director of ISU AfterDark.
