How do I declare a minor?

How do I change my major?

Set up an appointment with your Academic Advisor and inform them of what you wish your new major to be. It takes no more than a few minutes to start the process and paperwork.

Can I transfer my credits from another college or university?

Visit ISU’s TRANSIT website (https://transit.iastate.edu/) and login as a Guest. Here you will be able to search classes by institution. After you find the courses you wish to evaluate and have added them to your list, click “Transfer Evaluation”. The returning results will show the ISU equivalent for the course(s).

Where do I go to get tutoring or extra help with my courses?

Visit the academic success center to take advantage of the tutoring and supplemental instruction they offer for many classes. The department also has an E M help room located in Howe Hall for students who need help with their E M courses (Statics, Mechanics or Materials, Dynamics, etc.).

I received an internship/co-op offer! What’s my next step?

Visit the Engineering Career Services office to register your internship or co-op with the University. This is essential to keep your student status (housing, financial aid, etc.) active while you are away getting field experience.

What counts as a technical elective?

There are 3 types of technical electives:

  • “A” technical electives (Aerospace Electives) are 400+ AerE courses from an approved departmental list. Students are required to have one “A” technical elective.
  • “B” technical electives (Technical/Engineering Electives) are 300+ courses in the College of Engineering, or certain 300+ level MATH/PHYSICS/ASTRO courses. Students are required to have one “B” technical elective. (“A” technical elective courses can be accepted as “B” technical electives)
  • “C” technical electives (Career Electives) are 300+ courses in the ISU catalog as approved by AerE department pertinent t the student’s career objectives. Students are required to have two “C” technical electives. (“A” or “B” technical electives are also accepted as “C” technical electives)
